MRE'S = YUMMY

This evening I was just about to get up off my behind and make dinner for the first time since Monday, and the power went out. Everyone was very surprised because it wasn't even windy. I started wondering what to make for dinner since spaghetti was now out.

"MRE's!" suggested Nathan, he was very excited at the idea. He always wants to eat MRE's (Meals Ready to Eat) when the power goes out. I usually tell him that we need to save them for when we really need them.

"OK" I sighed, "Why don't you bring all of them in from the garage and we will pick what we want to eat."

I was very surprised when Nathan and Travis brought up four boxes of MRE's.

Nathan opened the boxes and lovingly sorted them.

"I want spaghetti." said Travis.

Marcus made a face.

I chose a mystery pasta MRE, Marcus got a chicken noodle thing and Nathan picked out Alfredo.

We opened the packages and warmed the main dishes with the chemical warmers that are included inside.

Mine never warmed up and smelled weird, Marcus wouldn't touch his, Travis took maybe two bites, and Nathan ate his and Marcus'.

I guess we weren't hungry enough except for Nathan. He is a growing teenager who is in track and field.

The MRE boxes were dated 2005. Do you think I saved them too long? Or was tonight not special enough?

I am so glad the power came back on! Spaghetti tomorrow!

I have never had an MRE in my life. And I'm not sure I'm missing anything!

I am so sorry. It sounds terrible. I have never had one and I hope I never have to.
